Now we’re getting somewhere. We’re not going to determine a national champion off three weeks of data, but meaningful KPI numbers are starting to develop.
KPI NEWS AND NOTES
- No. 1 Alabama has two of the top-10 wins on the board and is atop the KPI by a considerable margin. Washington comes in at No. 2 with wins over Boise State and Illinois.
- Central Florida’s win at Penn State may be more important for Louisville than it is Central Florida. The Louisville strength of schedule debate will merit discussion all season, especially after the American collectively is already sitting on three losses to FCS opponents.
- Fresno State missing Colorado due to the extreme flooding in the Boulder and surrounding areas could hurt Fresno State’s chances of picking up a BCS bid if the game is not able to be rescheduled. Playing Boise State twice (first on September 28 at home, then possibly in the Mountain West Championship Game) could help, but Fresno State will need help from the computers to make that final push.
- The Pac-12 is 9-1 in road/neutral games (two of which are conference games). They along with the Big Ten (5-3) are the only two conferences above .500 away from home.
- Washington State, Indiana, Ohio and Georgia are the highest ranked teams with at least one loss.
- 39% of FBS games have been played against FCS competition. FCS teams have won 13 of those games, already more than all of last year.
- Note on Old Dominion: I have qualified them as an FCS team for the purpose of the math since they are playing five FBS teams and seven FCS teams. Arguments welcome.
