WEEK 18 WEDNESDAY #KPI BASKETBALL (as of 3/11/14)

#KPI Headlines:

  • #KPI Excel resumes ranked by #KPI value per game (through March 11), #KPI by Team (through March 11) and #KPI by Conference (through March 11).  Notes on Rule Changes are also available. Note the discrepancy between #KPI and NCAA data is how games against Non D-I schools are counted (3.9% of the data)
  • Though early, scoring in conference tournament play is at 69.07 PPG, down slightly (0.10%) from the 69.15 PPG averaged during regular season conference play.  In 2012-13, teams averaged 66.7 PPG during regular season conference play and 65.3 PPG in conference tournament action.
  • The #KPI math currently matches 64/68 teams in the bracket averages at bracketmatrix.com with an average seed difference of 1.00.  28 teams match seed lines and 47 are within 1 seed line.  Two of the four teams different are a result of how the MAC and Conference USA AQs are currently being identified.
  • Assuming Milwaukee doesn’t become a 12 seed or higher (currently projected a 15 seed), they cannot play in Milwaukee.  Marquette is the host school, but the bracketing principles include that “the committee shall not place teams seeded on the first four lines at a potential ‘home-crowd disadvantage’ in the second round.”
  • Barring significant upsets in other conference tournaments, pencil Mount St. Mary’s and the SWAC AQ into Dayton as 16 seed first round games.

#KPI NCAA Tournament Field of 68 (through March 11): Automatic bids from the 32 conferences are determined by the top remaining seed if the AQ has not already been decided.  This list is comprised purely by math with no scrubbing. Conference tournament brackets are linked below.
