WEEK 12 #KPI BASKETBALL (as of 1/27/14)

#KPI Headlines:

  • Kansas and Arizona in virtual tie at the top: Kansas leads Arizona by .00087 for the No. 1 spot.  Kansas has played 9 home games to Arizona’s 14.  Arizona has the slightly more difficult remaining strength of schedule, though Kansas will still likely finish No. 1 in #KPI SOS.
  • Quality Wins vs. the Field …. Come from the Field: 33 of the 46 teams with two or more wins against the at-large field to date are also in the field. Only 4 teams (Oregon State, Miami-FL, Charlotte and USC) have multiple wins against the field and aren’t in the NCAA or NIT field.
  • Road Wins!: Teams in the field are 266-185 (.590) on the road and 396-239 (.624) in road/neutral games.  Teams not in the field are 687-2180 (.240) on the road.
  • Sneaky At-Large Bids: Keep an eye on teams like #33 Southern Miss (18-3) and #35 Toledo (17-2).  Both play in conferences that appear to be 1-bid leagues, yet both have potential at-large profiles if they don’t win their conference tournament.
  • The Undefeated: Wichita State is statistically the most likely to enter the NCAA Tournament undefeated, followed by Syracuse and Arizona.  Arizona has three of the top-4 wins among the group (at SDSU, at Michigan, at UCLA). Wichita State’s win at Saint Louis is second best (below SDSU, but ahead of Michigan).  Syracuse’s best win (Villanova) is fifth best of the group.
  • Scoring Down Overall in Conference, Up Per Possession: Scoring has fallen 2.1 PPG in conference play, but has risen 0.9% per possession.  Conference games are moving at a slower pace (2.6 possessions per team, per game).
