WEEK 10 #KPI BASKETBALL (as of 1/13/14)

Welcome to Week 10 of the #KPI.

Had a good discussion on Twitter about it being too early for rankings (https://twitter.com/KPIsports/status/420325195400753153).  As I tweeted, it’s a valid point and one with which I agree.  That said, with conference play starting and more than half of all games played, the data is developing and making more sense with each passing day.

Through January 13 of last season, teams were averaging 67.4 PPG (up 6.5% this year over the same time period). 71.8 PPG is the highest average since 1995-96 (72.5 PPG).  Points Per Possession have increased at a rate of 2.8%.  Teams averaged 73.2 PPG in November, 70.7 PPG in December and 70.8 PPG in January.
